Here’s a hand-picked list of some of my favourite mortgage-related sites.
CAAMP Mortgage Calculator – An online mortgage calculator provided by the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals. A little tricky to figure out at first, but I like it because it does a good job of displaying the effects of pre-paying your mortgage (in annual lump sums and/or increased monthly payments) in an amortized, month-by-month table.
CMHC – The consumer section of the Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation’s website. An excellent and neutral guide to mortgage-land – particularly on CMHC’s own Mortgage Loan Insurance for those requiring the coverage.
eValueBC – The B.C. Assessment Authority’s cool interactive guide. Check out the annual assessed value of your property.
Financial Consumer Agency of Canada – This is a clear and comprehensive consumer guide to mortgages, offered by the federal government. Way better than me (or anyone else with a conflict of interest) regurgitating it.
Realtor.ca – For those of you home-shopping, the national MLS database of homes for sale via Realtors.
Spagnuolo & Company – Tony Spagnuolo runs one of BC’s preeminent real estate law firms and I refer many of my clients to them for mortgage work. They have an excellent online knowledge base and blog about BC-specific real estate items (such as Property Transfer Tax, etc.). Click and learn.
My Partners – I work with a reciprocal team of top Realtors, wealth managers, lawyers, accountants, appraisers and other professionals involved in your home financing and personal finances. Please contact me for an introduction to one of these like-minded folks, specific to your area and/or needs.
